Barbara Mack is known for her evocative portraits depicting her subjects in an extraordinary light. A trained psychologist, she is particularly fascinated by workaday heroes, finding the humanity and depth in each person she photographs. Through the single lens of her Hasselblad camera, she offers a contemplative view into the soul of her subjects. In an increasingly digital age, she chooses to use black and white film and classic gelatin silver print technique to create a feeling of stopped time, serenity and beauty.

Dr. Mack has contributed her talents to a variety of non-profit and civic organizations including the Jewish Family Service of Los Angeles Holocaust Survivors Program and Israel Levin Center, the Los Angeles Fire Department, Jewish World Watch, the Schulweis Institute, Hope Net and American Jewish University, where she photographed world leaders and other luminaries. Her photographs are in the permanent collections of the Los Angeles Museum of the Holocaust and the Los Angeles Firefighters Museum. She has served on the Board of the Photographic Arts Council of the Los Angles County Museum of Art. Her books include Portraits in Black and White: Holocaust Survivors of Café Europa, volumes I and II.

Dr. Mack is a graduate of UCLA, received her Ed.D in Counseling Psychology from Boston University, and completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at Albert Einstein College of Medicine.
